Hello, hello! Sam here with another episode of "Sam's Thoughts Unplugged," where we delve into topics that are close to our hearts and minds. Today, we're going to tackle a subject that is near and dear to many leaders out there - how to engage and motivate your team effectively.
You know, the topic reminds me of this quote by Dale Carnegie, "People work for money but go the extra mile for recognition, praise, and rewards." It's a simple reminder that employees need more than just monetary compensation. They crave appreciation, encouragement, and an understanding of how their role contributes to the bigger picture.
But before we dive in deeper let me share a little historical snippet with you. In 1961, US President John F Kennedy visited NASA's Space Center. While touring the facility he met a janitor sweeping up. He stopped and asked him what he was doing. The janitor responded: "Mr. President, I'm helping put a man on the moon."
Now isn't that something? This story beautifully illustrates how when every member of a team understands their role in achieving the overall goal, they feel more engaged and motivated regardless of their position.
Let’s fast-forward to today's corporate world- it’s not enough anymore to simply assign tasks or meet targets. Leaders must inspire their teams by creating an environment where everyone feels recognized and valued for their contributions.
And speaking about contribution, I think it's only right to mention Stephen R Covey’s famous principle from his book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’, which says - “Begin with the end in mind.” This means each individual on your team should be aware of what you collectively want to achieve – what is your end goal?
In order to foster this kind of environment effectively though requires us leaders to really step up our game - by acknowledging effort rather than just success; promoting open communication; providing opportunities for growth; and most importantly, leading by example.
As we wrap up, here's a random fact for you: according to a 2018 report by Gallup, teams with high employee engagement rates are 21% more productive. That's quite the boost!
So leaders out there - let's strive to be more than just bosses. Let’s aim to be mentors, motivators, and partners in our team's success. Remember the lessons from Kennedy’s janitor – value every role, every contribution matters.
If today's episode struck a chord with you or reminded you of someone who could benefit from it, please do share it around. And don't forget to leave your feedback or share your stories about motivating your team. I’d love to hear them!
Until next time folks, remember: You are not just building a team; you're creating an environment where everyone feels they have a part to play in achieving greatness.
Thanks for tuning in! Keep engaging and keep motivating!
