So let's start with a quote from the one and only Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Powerful words, isn't it? Well, this is the essence of emotional intelligence.
You see, teams are essentially a group of individuals who come together for a common goal. But each individual carries their own set of emotions. When these emotions clash or align, they shape the dynamics of the team.
Let’s dive into history for a bit. Martin Luther King Jr., his 'I Have A Dream' speech is etched in our hearts not just because of its powerful words but also due to King’s profound understanding of emotional intelligence. His ability to empathize with others and effectively communicate his feelings resonated deeply with millions and created a united front against racial discrimination.
And here comes our random fact: Did you know that according to TalentSmart research, 90% of top performers have high emotional intelligence? Yes, indeed! Emotional Intelligence is not just about being sensitive or understanding; it's about using those empathy skills to lead better and create more cohesive teams.
But how can we apply this knowledge in real life?
Firstly, recognize your emotions and those around you. Be aware when frustration or joy seeps into the workplace. Secondly, regulate these emotions by finding healthy outlets or approaches that don’t disrupt work harmony. And lastly, use these regulated emotions to motivate yourself and others towards achieving common goals.
